Adding pictures

So I'm not that technically savy and I'm having issues adding pics to this site and to some of my posts. I wanted to add a pic of the potion 9 I used but was told when I followed the steps to upload a photo that my photo was too large. I have no idea how to make the photo, not so large. I took a pic with my phone and then emailed it to myself.

Anyone know how to make it so that pics aren't so huge data wise?

If you are using windows, open MSPaint and it has an option to reduce the picture size by a specific percent. I use it to resize my stuff.
