You shouldn't be so quick to make drastically negative projections about the future. There could be major breakthroughs with the current work and/or realms of science that are relevant to us. It's also likely that in the medium term someone very wealthy invests in this issue. And if not, there are a dedicated group of guys who are working on serious fundraising.
