One of the positive things about a quasi-bicontinental life is having 2 sets of holidays and sometimes having the same holiday twice.
Today is the beginning of the lunar new year holiday, and we are off to my wife's clan's ancestral village for three days. They have formally adopted me into the clan, and as the oldest male in my generation I have to put on a funny hat and clothes and lead my cohort in paying respects to my wife's paternal ancestors, first in a ceremony in the clan common house and then at the graves up in the mountains. At the first, we eat with the ancestors and, at the second, drink with them. I expect to be smashed on rice wine and rice beer before too long.
