Eat when you are hungry, don't when you aren't. The body will take care of itself.

I am not a fan of timing either, and I agree with the study complaints seen in the comments.

    Meal Frequency

I am experimenting with one big meal a a night with the option of a protein shake through out the day.I'm keeping low carb most days. I think that if you take a look at all of "diets" every think is about insulin control. Ultimately reducing insulin spikes seems to be a top priority. Second to this is maintaining sufficient protein for repair purposes.

Let me tell you what takes a bodybuilder to the next level in terms of progress: Learning to read your body.

That really is it, it is as simple as that. I have run a few good cycles, busted ass in the gym, ate the way every guru wanted me to, etc.. When I finally saw progress is when I listened to my body. Now I will say I couldn't have done this a year or so ago, I didn't have the ability. It takes time, it really does. But now I can almost 'feel' when the body needs more food, more carbs, etc. and I respond appropriately. The same can be said about gym routines. Sometimes your body isn't feeling the current line up, ask yourself 'what could I push myself on today instead,' etc...

I agree with H2S, one needs to read its own body. Also there are situations where more frequent meals are preferable and vice versa.
For example, one of the factors is adrenal gland functions- people with adrenal insufficiency need to eat more frequently to maintain their blood sugar levels, as they have tendency to fall, which has many undesirable effects- one of them is sugar craving and extreme hunger which make fat loss impossible among others.

Interesting swole source thread: 3 large meals vs. 6 smaller meals
