What are the signs of thyroid issues? And what causes them in a healthy 19 year old? Or is it from the anabolics?

trouble losing weight. low energy. i'd eat 1-2x a day and my weight would remain the same. it was cool in that, i wouldn't be losing muscle even in very low calories, BUT you know, it's not a good thing obviously. both my parents are hypothyroid. so it could be genetics, could be lyme disease as lyme is a neurological disease and effects EVERYTHING. my mom also has lyme disease.

In his case its probably genetics, so he would get problems at some point in future anyway, anabolics probably did make things worse and speeded things up- but were not really cause.
There are lot of symptoms of both hypo and hyperthyroid but common for both of them is connected to level of energy/focus, lack of libido weight gain/loss, temperature intolerance. Best way to determine if one has thyroid issue is to check basal body temperature- hypothyroid (low thyroid hormones) will have lower body temperature and hyper will have increased basal body temp. Measuring body temperature is actually very accurate way of determing thyroid status.

So, here's my question. What do you guys think about taking a libido supplement like maca indefinitely? Is that bad? Am i just masking my issue?
Maca has traditionally been eaten as a food so no issues with safety, and if anything it's going to improve your health. I will mention though that it's a cruciferous plant so it has some goitrogens. you may wish to cook it, as is traditional. apparently in Peru people believe that raw maca is toxic. but as far as masking your issue goes, yes, you may be doing this. I would pursue the followup tests and see what the issue is.

As far as thyroid goes, I too have been trying to sort that out. currently trying to boost function naturally. I have heard from knowledgeable practitioners that once you're on thyroid meds, it is hard to go off.

Yeah. So, I think taking the maca should b fine. I mean, at least until things sort out. It's nature Viagra. Plus, who doesn't wanna perform like a beast.

J, your knowledge enthralls me. I'll have to pick your brain one of these days.

Nate, good luck with your issues. No need to be embarrassed. Your not the first of us to make mistakes in this game. You can probably find a recent post of mine, that outlines some, I've had.

I added maca to my p5p and L-dopa supplementation post Ultradrol cycle because I was shutdown. Libido started coming back within 24 hours. Maca is great stuff.

    You hide your age well.

I am glad I wasn't into working out seriously at your age (just off and on). Who knows the shit I would have taken.

Depending what issue is, if thyroid is simply not working well enough than person will stay on thyroid meds for the rest of the life. But if problem is due to inflammation than after inflammation is gone can get of (slowly) and live without any medication. If problem is due to very high "reverse T3" then person will have to try to sort underlying issues (poor adrenals for example) and still he will have to go on T3 meds to clear reverse T3, in this case he'll have to drop T4 and rT3 completely, for which T4 needs to be supressed for at least 3 months- if all goes well at some point person will get "hyper" symptoms at that point he'll start reducing dosage and at that point they can decide wheter they will stay on T3 only or combination of T3/T4 or natural dessicated thyroid or some other "natural" treatment- if person is born under lucky star he may completely get of any thyroid supplement/medication.

Other question is: what is difference between "natural" thyrid medication/supplements for the rest of the life and thyroid medication for rest of the life?

I would say it more-less same thing, only "natural" is bit more expensive.
