Giving It All For A Full Recovery

    Hey guys,

First off, I really want to thank all of you (especially CD) for posting all your experiences on this board. I've been lurking for a while and following your advice and protocols. I suppose I just felt the need to post here and gauge how well I've been doing and get any advice on how I can keep my recovery going. I'll try keep the backstory as brief as I can out of respect for everyone's time.

I started going bald in my teens and decided to take Fin when I was 19 back in 2007. I had no idea PFS was even a thing, and started taking it without any side effects whatsoever. I was totally fine for many years until 2015, when I noticed my libido was a bit lower and I started getting sick A LOT. Usually I get sick very rarely, at most once a year. But in 2015 I was sick five times. I was under a lot of stress with work, so I figured it was that. Boy was I wrong.

By the time 2016 was rolling around, I was getting a ton of panic attacks and find it extremely difficult to sleep past 5AM. Usually I find it really hard to fall asleep and difficult to wake up in the morning, but it became the opposite. Finally figured out it was Fin and I could get PFS, so I weened off the drug over five weeks ending in August 2016. As I got off the drug, I felt fantastic for a few weeks and then slowly crashed over the next few months.

    My symptoms included:

    - Extremely dry skin
    - Loss of sensitivity in the genital region (could barely feel my penis and balls)
    - ED
    - Extreme brain fog (there were days I could barely speak. It felt like I was 30 seconds behind the rest of the world)
    - Depression
    - Thoughts of suicide
    - No libido
    - No morning wood
    - Panic attacks
    - Inability to sleep

At its worst in October, I literally spent three days straight pacing in my apartment with my brain racing with terrible thoughts full of fear and panic. I didn't sleep and barely ate. Just paced back and forth holding my head in my hands. It felt like I was losing my mind. I got some blood work done and my T was sitting at 190, with 350 being the minimum on my doctor's scale.

I work as a fiction writer and have several manuscripts to my name, so the fact my mind and emotions were so badly affected was extremely distressing. Without them, my career was over. I stumbled upon CDNuts' protocol and decided to give it a shot. I've always been a gym rat and ate well, so it wasn't hard to go into the plan. I started in late November.

Here's what I've done so far:

    - Started with a five day water fast
    - Lifting almost every day (as work allows) with HIIT. I really enjoy Jim Stoppani's Shortcut to Shred routine.
    - No alcohol. At most I've had half a beer since November. I'm not a big drinker so it was actually really easy. Cutting out sugar has been tougher, but I'm eating far less than I used to.
    - Cold showers every day.
    - Working hard to eat very healthy, but my work requires me to be social so sometimes I need to throw down a cheat meal for the sake of business.
    - I have also added homemade veggie juice into my diet to provide my body with nutrients. I sometimes do mini juice feasts.
    - Nofap (though I haven't always adhered to this one. I definitely fap far less than I used to. I understand it's important to just stick with sex)

I down the following supplements every day:

    Vitamin B
    Vitamin C
    Vitamin D
    Vitamin E
    L-Arginine
    L-Acetyl Carnitine
    Fish Oil
    5mg 5A-DHP (every three days)
    L-Citrulline

I also take 150mg of Wellbutrin XL on prescription from my psychiatrist after I came to her regarding depression and suicidal thoughts because of PFS. She totally believes PFS is a thing, luckily, and has been working hard to help me. I plan to ween off this stuff within the next few months, but I think it's really helped with the depression.

    I also cycle:

    Tribulus
    Cordyceps
    Tongkat Ali
    Ashwagandha
    Shilajit pitch
    Maca + DOPA Mucuna

As of today, my symptoms have lessened to:

    - Little to no libido.
    - Some general anxiety here and there.
    - Takes a little while to get an erection and maintain it, but I can still have pretty normal sex.
    - Less sensitivity in my junk, though it fluctuates. I usually test this by pinching my scrotum. Sometimes I can't feel it, other days it hurts a ton.

My mood is overall much better than it was just a few months ago and people have remarked how I seem to joke more and more lately. I do think I'm still not as full of zest as I used to be, which is something I'm hoping to rectify as a continue to recover. Sometimes, for bursts of 2-3 days, I recover a good chunk of sensitivity in my penis and balls along with more libido. I've had about three of these returns to form since December. My morning wood is also back, but it still has a ways to go until it's as strong or long lasting as it used to be.

Starting in January, my hair started falling out again like a motherfucker. I suspect this is a good sign. I bought a Wahl clipper for when it's time to let it go. Luckily, my girlfriend has been really understanding about everything PFS and doesn't care if I go bald as long as I feel better.

I've also managed to raise my T from 190 to 270. I've considered using very low doses of Clomid every 2-3 weeks, but I've been holding off to see how my natural recovery progresses. It seems to have worked very well for some people, but others haven't had the best experiences with it.

I'm aiming to attack this with everything I've got. I want my full sex capabilities back, but more than that I want my feel my full range of emotions again. I want to feel more rested after sleep, that electric feeling inside when having sex, and and my mind racing with ideas again. As a writer, I need to tap into that wealth of feeling that's lacking at the moment. I've worked really hard to get where I am, as writing fiction has been my aspiration since I was a kid. I'm not gonna let a dumbass pill take that away from me.

Anyway, thanks for reading all this. I really appreciate any and all advice you guys have for me. Let me know if there's anything I can add or subtract in regards to the regimen. I'm absolutely committed to recovery. I've been writing again, but it's been a bit harder than before. I really need my head and range of emotions/sensations back so I'm willing to go the distance to achieve that goal.

Thanks again! I'm looking forward to hearing from you guys.

Looks like you are progressing well.

Just one thing - don't touch the clomid. Other than that, keep on going.

I was almost beyond funtioning mentally and physically..I got on clomid from a neuro brain specialist in Cali and have had a dramatic turn around..I am about 10x better..More energy, less depression like you flipped a switch..Now I can't speak for anyone else but clomid is the only thing I have tried that has done anything..I was slowly getting worse and worse..My free test was very low..My physical symptoms are still bad but have lessened some..Fat, weight gain all around lower ab region and waist and chest area..But the menta sides are greatly improved..May not help anyone else but has helped me even more so than I would have believed possible the shape I was in..

Really glad to hear you're doing better, Holy. I know you were in a really tough spot earlier.

I'm glad you're doing well holyhead... but I have to go by my experience, which is to avoid clomid like the plague. Tried it at a variety of doses and it was horrendous for me. Master Mal, see my story in the Recovery thread if you want to hear of my experiences with it.

Glad its helped you out holyhead, but my mileage certainly varies on it.

Oh, and it sounds like you're doing a lot better Mal so i'd get off the Wellbutrin as soon as you feel you can, you have a good handle on things and would benefit from allowing yourself to stabilise and improve via natural means... it may even be holding you back.

Thanks for posting, Swill! I unfortunately will be on it a few more months before starting to ween down, but I plan on getting off it as soon as I can work something out with my psychiatrist.

Just out of curiosity, I was wondering how/when people started feeling more emotion/better sleep. Obviously there's no timeline and expecting stuff only leads to disappointment when I should be pushing forward no matter what, but it'd be great to feel a full, deep night's sleep with that warm feeling you get upon waking... not to mention strong emotions. It's been a while since I had those.

So I added Glycine into my regimen last night as per some recommendations on this board. Honestly the best sleep I've had since this whole mess started last August. Thanks for throwing it out there, guys.

I was wondering, does anyone else had any recommendations for things I could improve or add to my regimen?

My brain is pretty clear, but I still feel there's a screen door in the there locking myself away from my libido and a more cheerful attitude I used to have. While I understand I've made pretty decent progress, I want to keep this train moving in the right direction. Thanks all!
