Anyone here program in Java? I've just started and I'm nearly done with my first game... I've had some previous experience.

What were the best ways you learned more complex Java techniques, aside from just messing around with code?

Learn assembly and join the ranks of the 1337.

Outside of messing with code, the only other way to learn is reading a how-to book.
Java can't kill your computer, so trial and error to see what happens is the best method.

I'm basically just looking at app development. I've done some programming in the past and Java is remarkably easy to pick up. However if you don't mind... what would be your top few suggestions for Java, ways to make the programming easier and less redundant?

Android development. After I get the hang of this I'll focus on Xcode.

I'm looking to eventually start up my own app development team
