I only put importance on shakes post wo if I am not going home right away. Outside of that, shakes are a great way to get a snack in that won't destroy your diet.

All depends on what you describe as "real" food" - If highly processed shit-mix burger can be described really as "food"?

I'm a shake whore after hitting the gym, mainly because of convenience. I was in a pattern of hitting the gym and then going straight to work, much easier to just throw back a shake.
I'd usually give it an hour or two, then eat normal food.
If you can bench more than you can squat, you're doing it wrong!
A shake as soon as I am done working out and solid food within a half hour after that. That may change if I switch to PeptoPro intra-workout because I'd go straight to solid food when I got home.

Doing things like that keeps me from snacking at night and I don't wake up hungry either.
